TYPES OF ASBESTOS SURVEY

Asbestos management surveys are required during the normal occupation and use of a building. This type of survey ensures that any ACMs are being effectively managed and that the materials have not become damaged.


The purposes of an asbestos management survey include:

  • Ensuring that nobody can come to harm as a result of the presence of ACMs
  • Ensuring that any ACMs that are present are kept in good condition
  • Ensuring that, as far as reasonably possible, during normal operation that no-one disturbs any ACMs.

A refurbishment or demolition survey is carried out when planned works are going to be taking place to any domestic or commercial property. This is to ensure that the asbestos does not become airborne, and therefore cause health concerns.


The aims of a refurbishment/demolition survey are to:

  • Ensure that nobody in the premises or neighbouring premises will be harmed by work on ACMs
  • Ensure that the correct contractors are being used to undertake any work

The area being surveyed must be vacated during the survey and must be certified as safe before re-entry.
